MIKEY HARLAND

ART DIRECTOR

Mikey’s path to the paddock was anything but a straight line. Growing up in the South Island of New Zealand, racing was a constant, but his creative career wandered through the broader art world first. He studied 2D animation for three years and earned a Diploma in interactive design, mastering digital tools before moving to Melbourne to get his hands dirty in street art and working the floor of a screen-printing shop.

It took sim racing to pull him back to the track. Designing liveries for the virtual league Thrillhouse Arcade opened the door to a real-world role with a GT3 team in Australia, where all those disconnected past lives finally merged. He learned the rhythm of a race team, mastered large-scale vinyl production, and wrapped his first car for the Bathurst 12 Hour.

Today, he operates as the Art Director for Chillout Motorsports and runs Kintsugi.fm from his studio in the Dandenong Ranges.

Studio Environment
THE STUDIO

The studio itself sits hidden deep in the temperate rainforest of the Dandenong Mountains. It was built during a deeply difficult time, started as a young widower needing a quiet place to disconnect from the world.

Over time, the isolation turned into genuine peace. A quiet backdrop to a loud industry.

THE ETHOS

The name Kintsugi comes from the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. It rests on the idea that something can become stronger and more beautiful for having been broken.

It serves as a personal mantra for healing, but it also reflects the work done inside these walls: taking a raw chassis and elevating it into something beautiful.
